A week off

Which really won't be a week off since I have so much catch up work to do but I hope to get that much closer to finishing my Scarred Soldier story. I fear it might get a little too long and I won't be able to send it to the anthology open call. However, I'm not letting that stop me. If that's the case it would be a simple matter to extend it to novella length and shop it to storm moon or dream spinner as such.

I'm more worried about the geeklove. I don't think I can finish it and the scarred soldier in time. I'm not going to stress. If I stress, I don't write as well so if that's the case, I'll finish it whenever and shop it somewhere. In fact, this summer once break hits, I need to get around to making a list of homeless short stories and work on shopping them around.

Good look with the week off... I really enjoyed spending a week pretending to a full time writer. Was quite hard work to go back to the day job!

thanks. I can believe that. Unfortunately I know i have to spend a lot of the time catching up with lectures before the students return but I am going to get a lot of writing done. It's a matter of balancing it all.

Eh eh, how I feel your pain... that always happens!

doesn't it though? It happens to me a lot. As successful as I've been the last two years with short stories, they are not my forte.

The thing is though, that hard as they are, I always get much better reviews with short stories. To be honest, even I can see that the short stories are much stronger and incisive than longer ones. Maybe the effort to polish everything to death and not waste one single word actually brings out a better product, while with longer stories I get snowed under too many words?

that's very interesting. I hadn't thought of it that way. That could be mostly because as a reader, I don't like short stories. It's a struggle for me to read them and most of my friends and first readers feel the same way.

Though, I will agree that in writing short stories, it is a good exercise in picking the right words but the most usual rejection I get on short stories is 'the plot is too involved for a short story.' I am not particularly comfortable with them.

As long as you have a plan, it's a good idea.

plan is a bit too strong of a word for what's in my head but yeah, close enough
