repurposing
Sep. 4th, 2010 10:56 pmIt happens. You write a story for a specific open call anthology and you fail. You set the story aside. Sooner or later you'll find another open call or magazine that you think will be a good home for the story.
Only you may have to make some additions/deletions to them. I'm doing that with two stories right now. One I've another m/m erotica short story publisher for the cosplay murder thing but it has to be 800 words shorter. ouch.
The other is one I've been meaning to update for years. It's like 16 years old and that means plenty of rewriting. I'm a better writer now. But what I don't understand is why me or any of my beta's thought Luc was that great of a character. He had potential but he ended up a judgmental idiot. I'm trimming a lot of that out, keeping his angst and hopefully turning this into something that won't keep getting 'almost but not quite' (since this story almost sold a number of times back in the day but close only counts in horse shoes)
