Sunday Small Talk

jana_denardoI’ve been struggling to write in between cleaning for company to arrive and all the late summer/fall festivals that suck up my time. But now it is autumn, my favorite time of year and my company has canceled out on me (not too sad about it because I had three competing festivals that weekend and now without my brother in tow I can go to all three, sorry bro.)
The steampunk ball was great and always good for giving me ideas. I will be writing more steampunk for that Weird West anthology. That makes me very happy.
On the less happy side is misreading a word limit of 12K as 15K and being way over on my Simmer story. I’ll have to pull out a subplot entirely. That’s fine. It probably makes it less of a romance any how. I really need to be writing urban fantasy with romance subplots and not the other way around I think.
And after a well thought out but negative review I received on Snowbound I feel that way even more. Yes yes I know, don’t read reviews. I didn’t a friend did and told me as it hit on all the things I was feeling in general about writing in romance.
Not going to let it get me down. I must get Simmer done in just a day or two as the deadline is this week. Yikes. If it doesn’t fly then I’m keeping the longer version too since can we say novella? Yes, I thought we could.
I’m also going to try to do some flash fic for Dreamspinner for Halloween. That should be fun. It’ll either be with Aaron and Rhys from Kept Tears or with Temple, Agni and Caleb from Soldiers of the Sun. I’ve done Halloween flashfic for both over the last few years.
And before nano starts, I’m going to try and finish Blood Red Roulette. I should say I need to finish it. Wish me luck.

Good luck with all your writing projects! I'm kinda now leaning towards Simmer being more of novella than a short fic. :D
I'm also glad you feel better about your writing & have the drive to just do what you want to do, which is write urban fantasy. :D
