I had been doing a little plotting for the steampunk anthology I'd like to shoot for. One thing I did find was that my readers and myself for that matter, wanted to see something beyond Victorian England. I used to live in the Hudson Valley and thought wow, you know a contemporary of the Astors or the Vanderbuilts would be really interesting.

Now it's been nearly 20 years since I've been there. I'll have to do a bit of research since my memory is spotty and god knows where I put the photo albums from that time period. Hyde Park would be a great setting. (Just thinking about it makes me wish I were there. I didn't like working in NYC but I DID love Duchess county)

What I know about my story so far, it's a mystery. One of the would-be lovers would be a detective and the other is the brother in law of the murder victim. I see him as the heir of the family (along the lines of the Astors in terms of wealth). He was married, has kids and is a tinkerer/scientist while his younger brother runs the company. His wife has passed on and it was a marriage that had been arranged for him to do the one thing he managed with her, have an heir of his own.

It would be different than anything I've written before. I'm already getting the idea it'll end up too long for a short story. sigh.
