100 things #33 - The Fun Stuff
Some of the fun stuff about research is imagining scenarios wherein you get to go places and have the time of your life or in this case, find your characters houses that you will never live in unless you become the next JK Rowling.
Like these American Castles I want to see some of these so bad. I've been to many American Castles (and at this point some in Wales and England, whoo hoo research grant). I'll never be able to live in one but maybe my characters could.
It would be fun to have a character that's a mid-1800's pre-income tax industrial baron (well many of them were total jackasses so maybe not so much fun as interesting). I suppose a dot com millionaire could have something like this built or the character is the next Ironman or something. You get the idea.
Maybe old castles aren't the character's style. Maybe his/her mansion is more modern with neat insides like these . Some of these homes are just too much fun or downright gorgeous.
I may never live in a place like this but my characters can. For example, Arrigo, my vampire from Crisis in Faith (published with DSP) and Blood Red Roulette (WIP) lives here and how lucky am I to have a virtual tour of the place. He's an old vampire and the sunlight no longer bothers him. Luc is going to be living in the bathroom or something with this many windows.
It's fun research stuff like this. Enjoy.
ETA - I had to put this in here because this is very exciting really. I hope it works. Storm Moon Press is trying to do a 1940's radio show style serial story telling. serial guidelines check it out
