100 things #24, Six Sentence Sunday
Jun. 24th, 2012 10:31 pm100 things, writing, finding inspiration in daily life.
This week I learned two things. If you put all your money in your name and your power of attorney's name (ditto house and property), that PoA can refuse to probate the will and you can not look at it. That happened with my uncle. He had signed the house/car over to his nephew years ago and said nephew is PoA and his name was on all my uncle's accounts. He's refusing to probate the will and even though my uncle said we all get something, because of the fact this nephew is a cosigner on everything and all the assets go to him, he doesn't ever have to show us the actual will. All my uncles belongings are in a dumpster as the contractor who bought the house is emptying it. Now I wouldn't have gotten anything (he's a great uncle) all his nieces and nephews have been screwed. It makes no sense to me that you can not see the will (i.e.I can't believe estate lawyers haven't lobbied against a law that is so NOT in their favor).
Different side of the family two sisters and a brother were left with their mother's house. The one sis was the executor. The brother and her don't get along but he was leaving it to the other sister to make sure the youngest sis (executor) was doing things. Older sis wanted to buy the house from younger sis so her daughter and grandkids could have a home. Younger sis got mad. 'no i want to fix it up.'
Older sis and her husband drove by the house some time later and strangers were in it. Not only did young sis not fix it up she never paid the taxes and it went up for sheriff sale and sold for 2 grand. Not only did she screw her sister but herself too
Then my god son, one of triplets graduated this year from h.s. Did his father tell us? no. Did he use us last year to make his oldest daughter not look like freak with no family at her wedding? You bet. He made up long enough last year to make sure her side of the church had people in it and dumped us the same night.
So what does this have to do with writing? Well, one, I couldn't have made up such douche acts of pettiness if I tried. two, I'm going to use it somewhere. It's too nasty not to.
Six Sentence Sunday - have a bit of my camp nano. It's from the same universe as my short story Crisis in Faith
Arrigo headed into an abandoned housing plan after looking all the night before for Eleni and Luc without luck. Michael and Ayako had kept up the search in the day while he and Siobhan rested after calling in some reinforcements. He’d been out since early afternoon, his skin stinking of sunblock. Even so, any part of him exposed tingled, turning an angry red. He didn’t know why his mind turned to the abandoned houses. In the olden days forgotten cemeteries, vegetation-swallowed churchs and ghost towns had made excellent hiding places for his kind
