100 things, writing, the waiting

Oh, there's always waiting involved in the writing process. Sometimes it's the waiting on your muse to pull her head out of her butt and give you something that works. At least that one you have a little control over.
Then there's the wait to get something back from your beta reader. I'll be honest. I'm bad about that. I do sometimes forget that I have something to critique so I try not to get too impatient with anyone else when they make me wait.
One of the worst waits is after you've sent something off to a would-be publisher/agent and have to wait for that rejection/acception. That is without a doubt the worst wait. You're all keyed up. You've sent your baby out into the cruel world all on her own and you don't know what's happening to her. I DO, however, appreciate the publishers/agents who at least take 30 seconds out of their day to reject you, even if it's a form letter. At least then you know. I hate dealing with anyone who has that 'if you haven't heard back from us in a while, then it's a no' attitude. It doesn't take more than moment (especially if it's a form letter).
Right now I'm dealing with a new form of waiting: waiting on the cover artist. This is the first time I'll be getting my own cover art and now I find myself compulsively checking my inbox to see if there's anything there. The tentative date for release of the novella was May/June. Well it's May... hopefully soon. Can't wait. It's very exciting and yet that can't wait is a MUST wait. Ah, life.
