The Darkest Midnight in December got rejected for the Advent Calender. I was pretty sure it would. The disappointing thing is that unlike last year where they asked to buy the rejection as a stand alone, I got no such offer this time.

I need to find the contract for Snowbound. I think that I'm bound by contract to NOT market these characters anywhere else for 2-3 years. I want to read that before asking them if it would be worth my while to send it back to them as a stand alone novella or not.

It may be utterly too unromantic for them, though I'm not sure it's less romance than Snowbound to be honest. This is why I was hoping for erotica publishers that weren't bound up entirely in the romance angle.

Sigh. Not unexpected but always a little saddening nonetheless.

Oh well, back to the vacation story and another try but seriously, I need to think about this. I DO want to do a novel with these characters and if it's the romance part that's a problem (as opposed to not being holiday enough which is fair enough) then I will have to rethink doing the novel entirely until the rights run out.

yeah so am I. i wish i could think of a professional way to ask about resubmitting it. Maybe it needs another edit too before that.

well actually contractually no but I just found out today on the publisher's author's list that they've made a decision to do NO sequels for projects like this. I suspect they got several sequels which mine was one of a made a decision after the fact. I will be contacting them about sending it to them as a stand alone and see what they say.
