jana_denardoIt's been a bad year health wise so I've not been chatty here nor feeling that good but there is some good news today. I got both my edits for Ghost of Jupiter and my paycheck for the same. Whee. Makes me feel like I'm doing something right.
I even got the proposed home for the holiday story started last night and realized something, not for the first time. Writing historical fiction is dicey. You're stuck with all these prejudiced norms of that time. You don't want to dwell on them and piss people off (unless of course you're dealing with breaking those prejudices) but you don't want to hand wave over them too much.
The Soldiers of the Sun hopefully walk a good line. I designed them to be welcoming to all races and religions (definitely not wanting just one religion to be in the fore front. THat always annoyed me in horror, others fail and it's Christians to the rescue. I'm not putting Christians down but it's been my experience that faith, regardless in what religion, is equally powerful).
That said, others around the order may be less happy to have a Hindu in their midst in the 1930's or a young man from China. Heaven help them if they realized the four guys are gay.
