I always have too much plot (and anniversary special offers)

I really am terrible at picking plots that fit short stories. Let's face it, last year's success aside, they're not what I'm best at. I can count at least a half dozen stories whose main reason for rejection is that they had too much plot to be contained in 5 K

I'm nearly at 4K in my space pirates and i don't have that much time/space and they're still just meeting. omg too much plot and a violent one at that. I still like the story but I'm already having my doubts.
