I will be participating in
help_japan. I'm not sure yet what I'll do.
I've seen other authors, for relief donations for Australia and New Zealand, auctioning off dedications in their next novels or offering up adding a character of the bidder's creation into a story.
I'm thinking that my own offerings will probably be along the latter. While I'd be perfectly happy to put someone in a dedication AND give them a minor character to boot, so far I've only sold short stories. They would be waiting some time to get their money's worth on the novel. I have two half-started but it would be pure hubris to think they're going to get finished and sold any time in the near future.
I think it would easier to revisit one of my known universes and do a short story just for the author. If it's someone I know, they might even be willing to accept it via email and allow me to shop it around. If not, they might be willing to let me post it for free whenever I get my website up. (it would be on my lj anyhow in that case).
If not, well I'm doing this for charity anyhow and not for profit.
Of course I'm assuming someone will bid on me. That might be expecting a bit much. But hey have a look at my goodreads dashboard I have a four star rating and fan or two. (though I wonder if that rating is because I rated the other people in the anthology I was in and I won't be doing that any more. Apparently other reviewers don't like that, even though I'm not reviewing my own work. ah, live and learn)
