Just another quick post because outside of nano I'm not doing a darned thing! I am however, almost done with nano. I wouldn't have guessed that a week ago. I wasn't doing so good.

And I wanted to put a few things in writing so to speak about the ideas that came to me driving back from Pittsburgh after the holiday (which was thankfully politics free which I didn't bet on as many of my family are conservatives). I knew that the ending had to have the villains getting Cam back because that's sort of the plot of the whole book. I didn't, however, want to do what SO MANY books do: have the protagonist do something stupid and the bad guys put him in danger. I loathe that so much.

So it occurred to me there had to be a traitor that helps the villains out. That way the protagonist doesn't look like a dumb ass and I get the dangerous ending I need.

Now of course I have to go retcon the whole beginning to create that character. And I decided it needs to be one of the guards for the prince. That way I can move Nerium into his position since her role could be eliminated at this point since I changed the outline radically from what I envisioned in October. For that matter, I better find out something better to do with Prince Malas's sister, Ceras because her part is so small and insignificant that I could eliminate her without losing a thing which is never good.

Here's hoping to be finished in the next few days as that's all I have!

Luckily it won't be as hard as it could have been. Doing it 'right' and linearly was going too slow and when I fell back on my fast prompt writing stuff I got all the words but those are just random scenes so it won't be too hard to go back to the beginning and work him in.

Don't you love it when the middle/end of your story completely changes the beginning _after you've written it_? That's happened with my last two NaNo's now. Last year it was finding out I had the investigative methods at the Pinkerton Agency written completely wrong. This year it was discovering there were already animal cruelty laws on Chicago's books in 1869, five years before my story was set, and the laws were put there by an already-existing anti-cruelty society. Headdesk. So much for writing about the genesis of a Chicago humane movement. Plus my dead guy disappeared from the plot halfway through Not good if you're writing a murder mystery.

Yeah it's just so much fun. Ouch to your two. At least mine is in a fantasy world where I make the rules but yeah it was actually pretty important to me than my character doesn't pull one of those too stupid to live things to put himself in danger. I want him to go down kicking and screaming

So far the only two people going missing from my plot is that stupid crow (well a red pearl bird but it's a red and white crow because the goddess is basically Morrigan) and Princess Ceras.

I like the idea of your hero winding up in danger cuz of a traitor. Without reading your story, I couldn't tell you what to do with Ceras, unless you make her the traitor, & have the guard acting as her agent, since she can't tag along with the group.

Ah, love those great story ideas that hit midway through...Sounds like you have a great handle on it, though. I've only read the snippets, but a traitor sounds lovely, especially if the traitor doesn't think of it as a traitorous act. Complications. Such fun!

At least it hit right? The traitor is one of those disillusioned people who thinks everyone is getting promoted but him because he's been black balled or some thing.

Now to work it in subtly which I couldn't do at nano speeds. I apparently lose all writing finesse when I'm going fast.
