A Light in Winter

jana_denardoMy short story, The Light of Winter, is published with Dreamspinner Press as part of their 2014 Advent Calendar. It was my first attempt at contemporary fiction (which is not my usual genre at all). I'm very pleased that it's being well received.

Blurb - Dr. Gareth Evans and his medical doctor partner, Warun Jones, are having trouble making time for each other between end of term craziness for Gareth and holiday-related injuries pouring into the hospital for Warun. Gareth has planned what he hopes will be the perfect recipe for relieving the tension and bringing them back together. While Warun wants Gareth to partake in Plygain, a traditional dawn service of hymn singing for Christmas, Gareth plans to take Warun to Bryn Celli Ddu and introduce him to the Druid ritual of Alban Arthan, the celebration of the winter solstice. buy it here
Excerpt - Warun unbuttoned the top of his jacket as the afternoon sun grew slightly warmer. Maybe it was all the walking. He would have to thank Gareth more profusely when they returned to the hotel. This trip was exactly what they needed. The gap that had been opening between them sealed shut as they explored Penmon Priory and then Beaumaris Castle. They were both history nuts. They’d met for the first time as historical explorers at the Dyfi Furnace, a mid-eighteenth-century iron ore smelting factory, back near their current home in Aberystwyth. Gareth could be trusted to find different things to do for dates, like their second date to the sunken forest in Borth, just a few miles outside of town.
