What's Up Wednesdays

WHAT I'M READING Just finished Of Sun and Moon by Bryna Butler, a self-pubbed YA urban fantasy I bought at the Mothman festival a couple years ago. Turns out she was a student at the university I teach at. It wasn’t bad. The leading lady is an adaptation of a tooth fairy (giving that legend a twist).
Reading a lot of graphic novels and manga too, mostly Bleach (as the series comes to a close) and another reboot of Guardians of the Galaxy.
WHAT I'M WRITING I’m STILL editing Soldiers of the Sun my 1930s demon hunter story and not really writing anything. I’m almost done. Just two more chapters to go and I want to tweak some of the villains and send it in hopefully in a couple weeks.
I finished my first round of edits for my Advent Calendar (for Dreamspinner Press) story about Druids, The Light of Winter. It was the easiest edits I’ve had in ages. Most of them were more for the rest of the editorial staff going ‘yes this Welsh word is correct.’ Not the easiest language to deal with sometimes.
I’m busy thinking about my upcoming nano novel as well so soon I’ll actually be able to talk about what I’m writing again at long last.
WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW Festivals! I’m a huge festival person (sadly I’m also a huge let’s buy things I don’t need from festival vendors person too). There are so many this time of year. I did miss the sternwheeler one. I think these could make for a fun setting for a story really.
WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO Still no photos from the Steampunk Spectacle, sadly. Last weekend I went to see Murderdrome which might just be the world’s first roller derby slasher flick. It was at the Athena cinema in Athens (the very one I trashed in my novella, Triskelion, damn demons!) which serves locally sourced popcorn. Sweet. It was a benefit for the local roller derby team, the Hell Betties. They did ask me to join them but I’m far too far past my prime.
On Saturday I went to the Athens Paw Paw festival. Love paw paws. Wish I had a few trees to grow my own. It was a good day of drinking paw paw beer, eating paw paw strewn foods and buying things I don’t need but desperately want (and spawned a story idea in the process.). There was plenty of good music and Native American dancing as well. Fun Time
