Harold Ramis passed on today and I'm quite saddened, even though I didn't know him personally of course.

However, he was a role model for my writing. I loved his comedy. It was funny without being unnecessarily vulgar or ridden with curse words. Not that I'm not occasionally vulgar and I swear rather a lot but still, it was nice to have something where the comedy wasn't built entirely on those things.

As a role model, I looked to his style for how to write something funny. I learned a lot. Namely, comedy writing is not my thing and it is very hard, harder than drama in my opinion. My estimation of Mr. Ramis went up ten-fold with that realization. I would never really write in his style but that was okay. That didn't make his impact on my developing talent any less.

I might not write comedy but I do write the occasional funny scene. I won't be able to do that without thinking of him.

Here's to a good long rest, Mr. Ramis. You will be missed. If you'll now excuse me, I'm going to go watch Ghostbusters in your memory.
