When I saw the prompt of "Earthquakes" for the challenge at Brynn Stein’s blog, this insisted on being written. Just FYI it's based in the Prose and Poetic Eddas, not Marvel Comics. If you're unfamiliar with the story click here (or click just to see the cool art).

It should be beautiful here. A grove of hot springs couldn’t be more idyllic than this one was. If he shut his eyes, Loki could imagine it were better days. His lovely bride would be sitting next to him, running her fingers through his hair. They could conceive another child right here in the grove. He felt the dappled sun warming his naked body. Eyes open, reality struck his heart. Faithful Sigyn was at his side, blue eyes forever sad. Her arms trembled as she held a bowl over his face. The acrid smell of the snake’s venom couldn’t hide the more pervasive offal smell of the intestines the Gods of the Æsir had bound him with.

The intestines of his and Sigyn’s son. Was he such a monster that the Gods had to kill his child and turn Nari’s brother, Vali into a monster in order to do it? Had he loved his son any less than they loved theirs? Were Nari and Vali worth less than Thor’s sons, Modi and Magni? The Gods had thought so and one day he would make them pay for that, if he didn’t go mad first with the feel of his son’s entrails wrapped tight around his limbs. They would pay for the sorrow in Sigyn’s eyes as she tried not to see his bonds while she held the bowl catching the venom of the snake, Skaol had stationed over him, knowing how much the venom would burn him.

As soft as the breeze, Sigyn whispered, “I have to empty it now.”

“I know.”

Loki braced for the pain, squeezing his eyes shut. As Sigyn got up to go empty her burden, the venom dripped onto Loki’s face. Screaming, his body jerked and bucked as much as it was able, tied down as he was. Earthquakes emanated from his thrashing, and as the world shook, Loki had only one word echoing in his mind, the one thing he had left to look forward to: Ragnarok.

Definitely heavy. Things did not end well for Loki. I got into Norse mythos back in high school and Marvel Comics has gotten me back into it.

Thanks
