Here's my entry to the Next Big Thing. This is, of course, me being hopeful. It's not yet been sent out as it's in the final beta with my first readers. However, I'm very confident this will find a home.

What is the working title of your book? Kept Tears

Where did the idea come from for the book? - Honestly, it came from an anthology open call that I quickly came to realize was a bad fit for the story forming in my head. Not to mention the fact that, like so many of my short stories, this one was too much story to stay short.

What genre does your book fall under? - m/m erotica and urban fantasy

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie? Aaron could be played by Aidan Turner, just with no five o’clock shadow and his hair cropped close. Aaron is no longer Army but he still looks the part. Rhys could be played by Stephen Amell done up blond (maybe even more so than he is on Arrow). His jaw is a bit too square for Rhys and I’m not sure what he might look like with a long braid but his body is perfect (in so many ways).

What is a one sentence synopsis of your book? Aaron thought the war left him too scarred to ever attract another man, so everything about Rhys takes him by complete surprise.

Will your book be self published or represented by an agency? Well, it’s still in the hands of my first readers, so I haven’t tried to send it out yet. However, I have a couple publishing houses in mind. (So when I say the next big thing, I’m being very hopeful here since the book isn’t ready but I hope to have it so by the beginning of the new year).

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? - It took most of this summer. I can’t remember if I started it before I went to Wales or after but roughly, I think it took me about four months.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre. Honestly, I’m not sure. Any Urban Fantasy would be close enough. Butcher’s Dresden, Steifvater’s fae story, that sort of thing but more of a New Agey the fae are our friends take to it, as opposed to the violent fae of folklore.

Who or What inspired you to write this book? Years ago now, I wanted to be in the air force but it didn’t work out that way. Later, I became a VA doctor for two years through my medical residency. I have always held a special place in my heart and soul for those who have served, especially the wounded vets whom I was honored to care for. Aaron, the lead, is a wounded Afghanistan veteran, and I wanted to do this as authentically as I could to honor the spirit of sacrifice and service.

What else about your book might interest the reader?

While Aaron might be a wounded veteran putting his life back together, what he didn’t imagine was that the world of the faerie was very real and that his new love interest, Rhys, is the prince of the Tylwyth Teg. I had a lot of fun blending stark reality with the paranormal and the romance, especially as Aaron has suffered so much damage both physically and mentally.

I really like the sound of your story. Keep me posted, it's one I'd love to read when it's published.

Hmm, Aiden Turner and Stephen Amell together...very nice visuals.
