Sunday Small Talk

It's been a good writing week. I managed to carve out enough from Simmer so that it was only a few hundred words over the limit. That's about 4K gone. I did submit it but I won't be too surprised if it is rejected. No big deal if it is. I kept the long version too. I'll just work with it and market it as a novella with recipes. I think that would almost better.

I have my halloween flash fic within a few paragraphs of being done. It turned out very silly more so than scary. I guess that'll have to be okay. I'll double check on that. I hope so at any rate. It's also not romantic or sexy really.

And I think I need to have a long hard think on this. I might have to have a conversation about rebranding some of my stuff for DSP's non-romance line (something I should have broached before Soldiers even came out). I know that it's not really that romantic. I've started thinking on the next in the series and it definitely NOT romantic at all. It's pure urban fantasy.

For that matter Blood Red Roulette is a strange bird. Yes it has romance in it but it's an odd, almost awkward relationship. The story is much more about the threat from a psychopathic vampire than it is anything else. I have no idea really how to submit that one.

Either way, I think in many ways that I might do a tad better in the non-romance line because people are probably okay with a romantic subplot in an urban fantasy/mystery/Sci-Fi etc than they are in having too much of those in what they think is supposed to be a romance. Broken expectations for a book are a let down. I know I hate it when I read a mystery that's 80% romance and 20% mystery because I wanted it the other way around. It's something I need to think seriously on.

I also got another chapter done for Blood Red Roulette but I have to say I'm feeling a little disappointed in myself. I don't see how I can meet my goal of getting this submitted by year's end. I only have a few more chapters to write but this took SO long to write, been started and stopped so many times I know there are inconsistencies and redundancies that I have to weed out before I could do that. I didn't do my job here as well as I should have.
