I figured I might start sharing my book reviews, well probably just those of people I know and/or from my publishing houses.
Stamp of Fate by Nessa L. Warin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I’ve loved both mysteries and Greek Myths since I was in grade school so I was very happy to find this book. Set in modern times, it features the whole host of major Greek Gods updated for the twenty-first century. It revolves around Hermes (Declan) and Ares (Tadd) who have been partners for a long time. What started as a curse by Aphrodite (Adara), turned into a love match. However, their happy times hit a reef in the opening pages as somehow Athena (Sofia) is murdered in her own museum. Zeus (Bront) orders Declan to solve the mystery and for Tadd to protect his lover.
It doesn’t help that their main suspects keep fizzling out and no one seems particularly inclined to help them. If you remember anything about Greek Myth, it’s that the Gods and Goddesses do not get along particularly well (unless they’re sleeping with each other and not always then either).
Declan and Tadd are left racing the clock. They need to find the killer before his body count gets as high as Olympus. To make matters worse, Declan can’t even rule out Tadd. He is the God of War and a natural born killer after all.
I enjoyed this a lot. I particularly liked Declan (but I was always a Hermes fan). I liked that their modern day jobs fit with their past spheres of godly influence. I did have a mite bit of trouble with the modern names at first (there is a character list). Minor quibbles with it were (and this is just a matter of my own personal preference) it’s in present tense which isn’t my favorite and I wanted just a bit more of a motive for the killer or at least more hints to it. I did receive this from a giveaway by the author.
