I'm continuing with Kept Tears this time. I wanted something from Rhys's pov for a change. I wanted it to be more directly about his thoughts on Aaron but apparently that's not as near to the front of the book as I thought (and I'm rushing around packing for spring break. Nothing too exciting but I AM going back home to Pittsburgh where this novel is set.). So instead have the first mentions that Rhys is not human and what it's like for someone like him to date one.

The prickling on the back of his neck made Rhys pause and look around, but he saw no one following him. As a prince of Tylwyth Teg, he was used to violence aimed his way by the Unseelie Court. The Unseelie, always ready to do evil, were only held in check by the Seelie fae, and, as one of their crown princes, Rhys was a target. That was probably why it was foolish to get involved with yet another human, but Rhys couldn’t help himself. They were exotic, ephemeral, as fleeting as mayflies. He couldn’t help falling for them.

You can find the ebook here

I still love Kanda's indifference to my excitement.

I love how Rhys just can't help himself, even though he thinks he might regret it.

Thanks. Rhys just can't help it.

Interesting

Huh, I guess I never thought about magical beings thinking of us as exotic. I like it!

Thanks. A mortal life span would definitely be different to an immortal like Rhys at any rate.

Very nice! I want to know more about Rhys' species, and their expected life span if he's comparing humans to mayflies!

Thanks. Rhys's people are more or less immortal. He's over 500 years old. He has children that are centuries old too.

I really like the way you describe Rhys's attraction to Aaron. :)

Thanks so much

This is so sad. I'm wondering now if he's a bit commitment shy? Having relationships with humans might seem like one night stands to the long lived fae.

Thanks. Rhys isn't so much commitment shy but he is careful on which human he picks. A one night stand might be apt.

I like seeing the world through his perspective--the mayfly analogy is neat.

thanks very much

I have a feeling he'll like this human more than the others. :)

I think you may be right.

Nice back story. I wonder if the Unseelie Court will attack the humans he is attracted to? And I'm curious about what was making the back of his neck prickle.

[identity profile] jana-denardo.livejournal.com 2016-03-07 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. Short answer to that is yes.

Continually looking over ones shoulder and expecting attacks can't be a sane way to live. Maybe that's why he feels drawn to humans with their short lifespans? I'd also love to know more about the beings who are after him.

[identity profile] jana-denardo.livejournal.com 2016-03-09 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not an easy life and the beings after him will be the villain of the piece.

THanks
